Rev. Mary L. Perry, Pastor

Picture
In her role as Pastor of the First Congregational Church of Stoughton, Rev. Mary enjoys the variety of experiences that parish ministry brings, and is especially drawn to serving the greater Stoughton community. Mary was first introduced to UCC Stoughton as Student Pastor in 2010 and soon began building what would become a strong and lasting relationship. In April of 2013, Mary was called as Acting Pastor and was ordained in our church the following December. Prior to her call to ministry, Mary spent many years as a registered nurse where she fine-tuned her caregiving skills.

Mary believes that laughter and joy are gifts from God and that humor can be integrated with spirituality. Mary’s greatest joy in ministry is helping people grow in their awareness of how deeply they are loved by God. While Mary loves spending much of her time in the company of others, she finds renewal through solitude, prayer, and meditation.

Outside of church, Mary enjoys spending time with her husband Robert and their three adult children. She has a spiritual connection to bodies of water and is never happier than when walking around lakes, ponds, or even puddles…. it’s all good. And being by the ocean is nirvana. Maybe some day she’ll figure out what her attraction to water is all about.  When she’s not searching for aquatic environments, Mary will peruse one of the thousands of books in her home library. She also enjoys fantasy football, yoga, listening to a wide range of music, and cultivating an extensive collection of soup recipes.

Mary is drawn to the United Church of Christ because of its emphatic and unquestioning welcome to all people. She received her Master of Divinity degree from Andover Newton Theological School in 2012 and a Post-Masters Certificate in Spiritual Formation from the School of Theology and Ministry at Boston College in 2016. Mary is President of the Stoughton Clergy Association and serves on the Pilgrim Association Committee on Ministry.
